Summit-Day 1

Hello. My name is Scott Young and I am a parent of 5 children in School District #75, Mission, BC. Today I enrolled my daughter Hannah in Summit Learning Center which is "virtual schooling." This schooling option offers a variety of "Art Smarts" opportunities like skiing, dance, pottery, and many more. She does the regular curriculum for grade 9 through internet or text and paper modules. My daughter wanted to try something different and was attracted to the art smarts as well as the $500 that she gets to spend on curriculum support..She will likely use these funds to access dance programs or the like. Hannah is doing this program for 1 year and is intending to go back to Heritage Park for grade 10. This year I hope to share our experience, the good, the bad,and the ugly, so Mission parents can be aware of this option and get a picture of what it is like.
So far I found all the information given to us a bit overwhelming. Being the first day of school the office was very busy. Things seemed a little disorganized but I think that is to expected on the first day of school. Hannah is excited about the food course (elective) and about choosing some art smart options in October. We'll see how it goes!
